just curious.

Thanks,

I'll chime in on that one! I had a pain pump that constantly trickled over my abs where the mr was done that numbed it for 6 days and I took Percocet every four hours. The first week I took 2 every four hours (actually the second day I was in so much pain I took them every three) but then weaned down to one every four and now I don't need them at all. I was also given a muscle relaxer for the muscle twitches, but that made me nauseaus, yuck! So I only took those once. :-&

I'll chime in here also since Blue saved my life when I asked this question! I started with vicodin 500 and valium 5, which I thought was a little weak considering that they were opening my entire torso up (FTT/MR/BL). I didn't have a pain pump or any kind of local anes at home. I was right about the vicodin not being adequate -- I was miserable, weeping, unable to sleep because of the pain the first night. Blue advised me to ask my PS for percocet the next day and I did. The first day I got them (2nd day post surgery), I was taking two percocet (325) every two/three hours. I also got compazine(sp?) for nausea since taking that much percocet made my stomach a little roily. Little by little, I've reduced my percocet dosage to one percocet every three-four hours -- still can't go more than four hours w/out it -- and a five milligram valium if I am feeling especially tense. Strangely enough, I find I sleep best if I take a vicodin along with ten milligram valium at bedtime. I sleep like a baby on this combo!

Vicodin worked well for me though you have to eat something with them since they make you nauceous(sp).
Answer:

Percocet or Darvacet always worked for me! Vicoden doesnt work very well on me....but I do wish they gave me demeral not for pain just because!
Answer:

Hi Mysty

Don't wish for Demerol...it makes you heave like nothing else unless Gravol is given with it.

There are many more new narcotics that work better with less side effects of nausea. After all, who needs to have that yuck feeling.

Have you tried Percocet or Torodol ?

Holly
Answer:

Duh.........I see you have tried Percocet.

By the way.......what is Vicodin ? I am in Canada and a RN and never heard of it.....perhaps it is only avail in the USA.

Does anyone know the proper name for it ? It seems you guys love it and perhaps I will try to see if I can get it here.

Thanks.
Answer:

I'm with ya Mysty, Demerol rocks! LOL
They gave me Ultracet because percocet makes me sick.
I switched to Tylenol on day 3. Used Tylenol PM at night. That was fine for me.
Answer:

thanks ladies- I was ag because I got a rash from percocet last year which is a apparently a rare but more serious reaction to percocet...it was just itchy but started at the toes and worked it's way up. my doc said maybe demerol pills. As for Vicodin, I have heard about it in the US but never in Canada. Interesting...21 days until FTT and BA! YAY!
