How long until you resumed full exercise/cardio/weights?

Question:
Hi, I am considering a TT, but am very concerned about how long I will be out of commission. I run, lift weights, play tennis, and rollerblade.

How long before you can actually go full steam to your former exercise schedule if you have a TT with MR and ? The thought of not being able to do much for a long time is so y, enough to make me reconsider having a TT!

Thanks so much for any responses, I am so torn with indecision.
Answer:

Hi Kimberk, I was able to go back full swing comfortably after about 6 weeks. I started slowly at about week 3 or 4. At seven monthes now, I sometimes feels tender to the touch but love the results!! Good luck!!

Answer:

I am the same as Robin- went back to full exercise and teaching at 6 weeks- started back slowly at 3 weeks- and that was even after complications....

Your body will tell you when you can go back.
Answer:

I have worked out 6-7 days a week for 20 years (running 3 days a week, weight training anad aerobic weight training the other days). I worked out til the day before my surgery (tt, mr, hr, a little to outer hips). I am 47 years old, but I was very fit. I am at 7.5 weeks and have started again with light workouts, but it is very slow. The swelling from working out is great and the tummy and hips are quite uncomfortable. I believe it will be worth it in the long run, but the recovery for me has been extremely slow. Good luck to you.
Answer:

I'm older ,46, and seemed to have a harder time bouncing back from the TT. I started walking a mile a t3 -4 weeks, jogging at 6 weeks (but at half the distance) I didnt return fully to all exercise until 8 weeks.
Answer:

What about abdominal work post MR? I'm an ab fiend so I don't hurt my back...

Answer:

i started walking at about 10 days after FTT/MR... went back to spinning classes with no lifts/jumps at about 3 weeks, started jogging/walking also at 3 weeks, etc. started light weights also at about 3 weeks... maybe half of my former weights (i lift pretty heavy normally).

at 6 weeks, i am doing my usual 2 spinning classes full blast, 3 weight sessions at about 75% weights, running 35 minutes 3 times a week, and have just resumed yoga. also just resumed very light abs work, very light and few reps.

i was also very worried about being out of commission for too long, esp. re weight gain, and exercise is my sanity saver, esp. once i went back to work.

i have been lucky with a smooth relatively easy recovery, some swelling, but not too bad, and no infections, seromas, etc.

Thanks for all of the replies, it is very helpful and encouraging.

You ladies are pretty amazing, I am impressed! I just hope that by 8 weeks I can be back to light jogging and some tennis. If I can lift light weights too, I would be ecstatic!
Answer:

I started back with my yoga practice at 6 weeks. I started slow and was 110 percent at 8weeks post op.

Mary Ann,

That is wonderful! Did you have MR and/or with your TT?

Also, do you still swell after your yoga workout?

Thanks
