Question:
I went for my six week check up yesterday and all was well. The ps told me to keep wearing tape on my incision until 8 weeks (I change the tape once a week). Then at 8 weeks to start painting my incision and my bb with Guard. This is a product that has silicone and some type of s and is painted on like clear nail polish. Has anyone else used this product?
Answer:
I just bought some today at Rite Aid. Haven't tried it yet but anxious to see it will work.

Answer:
I bought some from my PS office and have been using it since 2wks PO. So far, I've been really happy with it and can honestly tell a difference in my incision- although the change could very well be just from time as well
Answer:
Silicone is used for and keloidal scars. Silicone sheets & gels have been on the market for over 20 years, & are the only products that have shown signficant results through ture, versus market-oriented, clinical trials. Scar guard & are simply overpriced items with good marketing teams. Neither has any research behind them. I don't remember scar guard as having any silicone, but silicone gel & sheets can be purchased directly from the manufaturer. One site is biodermis.com. The gel is much less than scar guard, & the sheets are excellent.
I found immature hypertophic scars forming after a TL, researched it out, stopped using Mederma & switched to silicone gel & sheeting. The scars are significantly smaller than they were, & I'm at 5 months out, with 7 more months of healing left.
Answer:
I was wrong, what I bought at Rite Aid today was not Guard. It's called ScarCare by Dr. Blaine's. It's a non medicated silicone gel pad that you apply over the scar and wear 12 hours a day for up to 90 days. It also comes with a solution that contains e, antioxident and silicone liquid. You use that when you're not using the pads. It was $18.99. We'll see how it goes. I bought it cause the pads are nice and cushiony so I thought they'd make a good barrier between the scar and my clothes.

Answer:
Nancy,
I saw that (ScarCare) today at Rite Aid...was there enough in the box to cover the whole scar? Looks like you cut it to fit, right? I was going to get that but didn't seem like enough in the box...very light.
Scar Guard was out of stock...tried the Neosporin Scar Strips but they kept falling off.

I started using guard a few weeks after surgery until it was all gone, I think maybe a month? I can't really remember. I didn't buy it again because it's 50 bucks from my PS and my dh said he saw it at walgreens for 30 something dollars but it was a smaller bottle. he got me some other instead but to tell you the truth I've only used that a few times.
Answer:
Hey Darlene,
I'm hoping it'll be big enough. I'd say it's about 6 or 7 inches long by aboout 4 inches wide. Since you cut it to fit, we can cut the strips pretty thin for our . Obviously it'll have to be in a few pieces. I'm anxious to use it cause it feels very cushiony in the pack and I think it'll be a great barrier against clothes rubbing. I'm going to try it on my BA incisions first.
Answer:
The stuff I bought from my PS was $60 and is painted on twice a day like nail polish. I figured I could find it cheaper but was afraid that I may not and did not want to drive an hour to his office to buy it in the end. I am not supposed to start using it until 8 weeks post op and will use it until it runs out.
