Almost 8 months postop..question for other vets...

Question:
I'm almost 8 months PO (FTT/MR, flanks/bra roll) and then had a BR & Lift in December. I go back in June to discuss revisions as I have a slight dog ear on my hips. However my tummy above my BB is still bulging and looks like I'm 4 months pregnant. I want to say it's swelling but I don't know...it gets worse through the day but is still there in the a.m. - just not as bad. I gained about 10lbs since my BR surgery and while my eating isn't always the best, I don't think its bad enough to gain so much weight in a short amount of time. Anyway, I recently started a new exercise with the balance ball (just love that!) however when I have to lay on it on my stomach, it hurts my stomach so bad. So what's up with that...is it swelling in my stomach that would make it hurt or just the muscles still not healed yet or what? I do wear my compression in some cases.

So why do you think my stomach hurts when I do this? Its like I can't breathe when I'm laying on the ball.

Thanks for reading!

Answer:

I am 15 months out and I still have some tenderness in the abs when I work out. I think that's pretty normal. It's almost like it doesn't hurt anymore but I'm just so aware of it. My swelling was pretty well resolved by about 5 months but everybody is different. Swelling is not an issue at all now except during that TOM when I would always swell anyway
Answer:

swelling can continue from 6 months to one year. also during the MR, did your surgeon do a full MR or just below the BB. My understanding is that if not a full MR can cause the upper abdomen to buldge. also could you need to be drained there..maybe fluid is trapped...

I need to ask my PS to if she gave me the full MR. I did have an ETT with MR and in NOv. I am still swollen too..but its still early for me at 4 months..contact your PS and see what procedure she did. also I have read by others that a vertical incisiion yields a small abdomen in the upper area. hope this helps

Thanks! Yes I did have a full MR and I did look flat at some point and went down a pants size as well. Now I'm in between the lower size and what I used to wear. My body shape is completely different now in terms of how my clothing fits. I was warned by my PS about not having much of a waist since I'm short (my pants constantly fall, even sweats). But he can go back in and sculpt me more of a waist as part of the revision. I was just surprised at how much my abs hurt on the balance ball. That part of my stomach if very tight, if I'm standing I can't pinch it. He checked me the last time and didn't feel anything that needed to be drained, not sure if it can change from that point. I'll definitely head back within the next couple of months to arrange for the revision. Oh joy, another surgery lol

Thanks!

Is he going to charge you for the revision to sculpt your waist?
Answer:

Princessmommy, I use the ball to workout with all of the time. Some days it bothers me to lay across the top and some days it doesn't. I teach pilates as well and am a trainer. I have days were I overdo it and that is when it seems worse. just like WW said I am always aware, just not always painful. I have one of my clients that can hyperextend thur her spine and she says that actually feels good to her, where for me that is like trying to pull a rubberband that is way to stiff and it is going to snap.
Do you have pics that we can see your swelling/pouch? If it is still body fat will you ps that area?? I kind of go up and down 5 lbs isince my surgery, of course that is because I like sweets, I keep going on a cleanse when I feel like I get out of control. (I'll be starting the next one Monday).... Good luck to you!
