good food choices immed. post op?

Question:
Hi everyone. I will be recovering in a hotel room for the first 3 nights after surgery. It is stocked with a kitchen and was wondering what I should fill the refridgerator and cabinets with. Also, Ilove drinking smoothies made with milk and fruit but I add in Sweet n low. Is artificial sweetner ok? Thanks-Amy
Answer:

good luck on your surgery..we will be thinking of you. be sure to stock plenty of crackers, jello, popsicles and soup. On the 3rd day I had chinese..lol! see you on the otherside soon...pack some sweats and nothing pulled over...
Answer:

I agree with whisperwillow, jello, soups, saltine crackers, plenty of water, etc.
I did not have much of an apetetite for the first couple of weeks. I felt nausea and was unable to eat much. maybe it had something to do with the anesthesia.
well the best of luck to you!
Answer:

I didn't have much of an appetite either and after reading so many posts about swelling, I made very sure everything I had was as low in sodium as possible. I had low-sodium soup, ate lots of fruit and vegetables and very little pre-packaged foods, except the soup. Plus I drank as much water as I could. I think all of that made a big difference in my recovery. Good luck.
Answer:

i ate lots of soup, toast and tea with honey. and jello. lots of jello. i didn't have any nausea so i was surprised that my appetite came back pretty quickly. at first i couldn't tell when i was hungry because my was on so tight. once i was able to take it off and on i could tell i was hungry. good luck with your surgery.
Answer:

I think anything you feel like eating is okay (within reason Im sure)
I ate yogurt and crackers right away, then I had jello, than I had more crackers, than I had french toast (this is in the first 6 hours ) Today I've had bacon and toast, crackers, and yogurt.....
Had no problems and my doc said if I feel hungry- than eat- its pertinant for healing.
Oh- and nothing but water so far, but I am craving a diet pepsi
Answer:

I lived off of pudding! I couldn't get enough of it

5 weeks 1 day since FTT, MR, abs, flanks
Answer:

I am 5 weeks po and still don't have my full appetite, even though I am exercising a lot. I am not complaining, though.

All I ate for at least the first 5 days were crackers, Sprite and popsicles. I am recovering well--I just did not feel like eating. Your tummy can be upset right after sx, so foods like what I listed are helpful.
Answer:

I mostly just felt like applesauce or yogurt.
Answer:

I was famished after surgery...that's how I got the belly to grow so well!
Not much affects my appetite. By the second day I was eating pretty much everything...except...I steered clear of broccoli and beans! Gas and bloating are not fun when your abs are sore.
Also...chew slowly, don't talk with food in your mouth. All of the stuff that mom used to tell you.
Choking and the Heimlich maneuver wasn't high on my list post op.
Answer:

I got the easy to stomach foods that are recommended and although I have used them, I've eaten just fine since surgery. I have actually been really hungry and have no problems eating anything and in good quantities.

I have loved eating yogurt and pudding but have eaten plenty of salads and veggies and had tacos for dinner tonight.

It's good to get all of the easy stuff just in case but have some "normal" food too.
