caring for young children after full tt

Question:
hi, i just found this site a few days ago. i am going in thurs. for tt,mr and of hips and flanks. i have three young children and was wondering if any of you had your tt with small children at home, and how long it took you to be able to care for them without help. mine are 2,3 and 7. i do have my mom in town to help out. i am staying with her for 3 days after my surgery. i was just curious. also, did most of your ps. suggest lip on hips and flanks with your tt. if so, what is the recovery like on the lipo part? would love any advice or input! i am very nervous and ready have my great new tummy!!! thanks

I had my TT/MR on 1/12. I also have two small childen, 2 and 4. I felt pretty good about 4 PO, but I wouldn't suggest taking care of your small children alone. My DH was a major help, I also have a 16 year son that was help. So even though I thought I could do it, my PS instruction was to not pick up more than 5 pounds for at least two weeks. However, I still was able to hold my kids with a in between and I also gave them baths if my DH or son put them in the tub and took them out of the tub. Just be careful and try not to do too much. My problem is that I have felt so good and I have to make myself sit down somtimes. Will your mom help with the kids? Do you have anyone else to help for at least a week or two?

Hi,
My kids were off for Veterans Day which is when i had my ftt,mr hernia repair, old revision..They are 7,9,13...It was manageable for me cause my hubby did everything ..I went in early am..got out at 5pm..I managed to get home ,puke, take pain meds and sleep,,.. I have a high tolerance for pain but was very uncomfortable for about 3 days. which was over the weekend so i couldn't do much with the kids....after that,,was able to move around and do some things around the house..I kept thinking to myself..thank God the kids arn't home (they were in school by mon.) I don't know how my friend with 2yo twins did it..I don't want to scare you but maybe you should have backups ..just in case..
On a positve note..took good care of myself..postop..ate lots of protien, drank tons of water,,,and RESTED...now im abut 10 wweks out and am running on the tradmill 4-5 miles ,,fitting into some cute clothes and feel great.. Good luck withyour surgery and recovery..Lisa

Hi there. I have an 8 & a 2 year old. I used a stepping stool for my baby to climb up to the changing table so I did not have to lift. My 8 year old was sooo helpful. Explain to the kids that you need their help (doesn't do much good for the younger ones). I offerd mine money for his help doing chores. It helped entice him.

Good luck & get ready for the flatlands!

This has been the hardest part for me. I have a 2 year old and have not felt up to doing anything with her for the last 5 days since my surgery. I'm too uncomfortable and when I try to bend in anyway the one side of my really burns. I've been able to hug her and that is about it. My DH has been doing everything. I'm hoping that when the drains are out I will have more flexibility to move around on the floor with her.

I had help with the kids (1 1/2 & 3 1/2) for 4 weeks and needed every day of it. I had ETT & 12/21 and am not supposed to lift over 15 lbs. for 6 weeks. I got tired very easily for the first several weeks so it was good to have someone around to take care of the. DH stayed home for 3 weeks and my Mom was here for the 4th.

I took back over last Tuesday and I was whipped by the time he got home for the first few days. I have had an uneventful (no problems at all) recovery and I think it was largely due to my being able to rest and take it very easy.

Good luck!

Molly
