SPLITTING OPENING TAKING LONG TIME TO HEAL

Question:
When it first opened, I saw my PS and she said just to cover it and it should close up. That was about almost 4 weeks ago. Since then, I have had other areas open and close. But this one opening which had another little one next to it has not closed. Sometimes it looked like it was developing a scab but the scab would end up falling off. Now it looks like it has merged with the one next to it and now is a bigger opening. It doesn't hurt and I don't have a fever. It does ooze yellow and white fluid.

Has anyone had this happen to them? If so, how long did it take to close?

I do see my PS on Wednesday.
Answer:

When I had mine, I used a qtip w/peroxide, topped off with neoporin. Occasionally white gummy stuff (sutures) would start to come out, and I gently pryed it out with the qtip.

My opening was also at the bottom of the incision - where the most tension is - so when I pullled my on, I lifted up on the Ken to adjust myself so that the garment held things together with the least amount of tension.. make sense?

I got it to close in about a week.
Answer:

Sounds like you are spitting a stitch (lovely description, huh?). I had a small area which had what you describe. I was told to put peroxide on it with a q-tip daily. I kept it covered it with a telfa pad, but left it open to air for a bit of time each day. It took about 2 weeks to close.
Ask you ps if this would work for you.
Good luck.
Answer:

My PS told me that if the stitch is not gotten out it takes a LONG time to heal up....hence the reason he went diggin in my incision.
Answer:

I have one too. 9 Weeks Post op see . PS said to continue to put Bacytracin or Neosporin 2 x per day. Anyway, she told me that it can take up to 3 - 6 months to heal, also a on this web confirmed the same 3-6 mo recovery as well.

Also, taking Zinc by mouth 3 x day and a good multi with all of the B s helps reduce the duration by up to 40% in many cases according to my pharmacist.

Good luck.

Answer:

I did do the q-tip and peroxide thing with no results. Yesterday I put steri-strips on it and haven't touched it since. Do you think that's a bad idea?

Thank you everyone for your replies. I can always count on this board.
Answer:

Momagain,

You said this is going on for 4 weeks now? I am just curious as to how many weeks PO are you?

Sounds like from the other posts that this is normal. This es me though because I wonder if I am still a canidate. I had stitches "spit" and I pulled them straight out and never saw anything inflammed, red, open, etc. on the incision. My incision appears to be completed closed since about 2 weeks PO.

At 3 weeks PO my PS did tell me to massage massage massage and feel for anything that feels like a prickly sticking up and to pull it out immediately. Having a stitch partly in and partly out can cause a bacterial infection he said.

Take it easy and rest. Keep a positive attitude. Also wondering how far you are along because maybe you can ditch the , seems like that would aggrivate it.

Sending healing thoughts your way,
Diane
Answer:

I am 9 weeks PO tomorrow. This did not start until I was 4 weeks PO. Yes, from what my PS said and the people on this board it is normal. I believe the type of sutures one gets will depend on if this happens.

I no longer wear the only at night. I wear a fleexe during the day. When I see my PS on Wednesday, I'll ask her about ditching the binder at night. Although, I will say that I feel secure at night when I wear it.
