Church on Easter 1 1/2 wks post op?

Question:
I just realized today that Easter is 1 1/2 weeks after my surgery. I was just wondering what any of you thought about the possibility of me actually going to church that day.

I usually sing on Easter, but luckily I am not scheduled to this year. But will I be able to sit in a chair for 2 hours? And will I be leaning over when I walk around, giving people reason to wonder what's wrong with me?!

I'm guessing I won't be able to go, but thought I'd get the input of those who have been there.

Thanks!

Answer:

It's worth a try...bring a and hold it against your tummy. I did that at 2 weeks for my sons basketball game. I just wanted it for comfort in case I coughed or laughed.

I think you should be fine.
Answer:

My surgery was 2 weeks before Christmas services. I did go to services, but it was a bit much. I had an XTT, to flanks, inner thigh, back, and chin. So depending on how much you are having done you should be fine. Make sure to take a pain pill with you incase you start to hurt during or after services. We do a lot of standing and then sitting then standing then sitting again (that got a bit old after a while). I am glad I went.

I wore preop pants and a sweater, so I was able to hide my drains.

Yah, except the people at church are the main people I don't want knowing about my surgery. A would create a lot of questions that I'm not going to want to answer! I could see how the pillow would help, though. I'll keep that in mind for other things, like if I go to a movie with my honey. I know my sister liked, not only having pillows all around her, but on top of her tummy after her TT and other tummy surgeries she has had.

I think I may have to resign to the fact that this may be the first Easter ever that I'll have to miss church? But, who knows. Maybe I'll be one of those amazing healers and I'll feel fine. I don't want to have to walk gingerly and hunched over. I don't want to be afraid if someone wants to give me a hug. I think I'd rather just not have to worry about any of that, even if I could handle sitting there for two hours.

Hey! Maybe I should go to a whole OTHER church where nobody knows me!!!

Nah. I'll watch an Easter service on TV or something. But I do think I'd like to go to my sister's in the afternoon for the typical family get together. I can lay on the couch and be around people who know I had surgery. (Which would NOT be my husband's side of the family. They'll just not get to do Easter with us this year!)

I really think you should be able to go. You might take some tylenol or advil before you go just incase. I made a 2 hr drive at 1 1/2 weeks and it was not that tough at all. Don't give up just yet! You never know, you might be a really fast healer and be just great by that time! Good Luck!

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll just wait and see how I feel.

My initial plan was that I'd most likely miss at least two weeks of church because of surgery and a third week maybe becauase of surgery, but for sure because I'm getting a weekend done that week! I'll look very sunburned for several days!

I would say that you'll probably be okay but....just keep in mind that you're having a lot done at one time. At 10 days PO, I would have been fine, especially sitting down. Standing and walking are the toughest part after a TT, especially if you have a MR too. At 10 days PO, I was still a little hunched over but not too bad.

If you're not open to telling other people or fibbing about your condition, you may want to think about staying home. The hunching often causes some to ask questions, they may think you've injured your back. Another consideration is clothes, since you're having too, you'll probably be limited with what you wear or what fits right.

Just something to think about.........
