Stupid Question, but

Question:
what exactly do the terms "dog ears" and "ken doll" mean? I think I have the general idea, but it's not really clear yet.
Answer:

not a stupid question...before we got here, most of us didn't know, either

Ken Doll refers to the mons pubis area being swollen, and thus looking like Barbies BF defrocked.

Dog Ears is something that can happen at the ends of an incision, where they pouch out a little, like a small flap. Revisions are pretty easy to fix them, as I understand it.

Thank you. I was reading another thread where it sounded like it might be possible (at least with the Ken Doll) to have your PS take care of it at the time of the surgery with . What are the pros and cons of this action?

Is this also true of Dog Ears? Can you address this issue with your surgeon prior to surgery, and ask him to ensure this doesn't happen or is it something that occurs during the healing process and can't be predicted?

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!

TAke a look at my s and you will see Big dog ears. THis is do to having fat around the sides and in the back. My PS wants me to wait until the swelling goes down and then we can discuss what to do. Some people just get a little fleshy area on their hips but I have big lumps!!!

Make sure you bring it up with your PS so he is aware of your concern.

You're very welcome That's what we're here for!

I didn't know it before hand, but my PS evidently did some lipo contouring down there. I had lipo in conjuncture with my TT, but only contouring of upper abs, pubic area, and probably the 'edges' of the treated area(s). I'm waiting on my surgery report (order from the hospital) so I can see all the details.

I have a prominent pubic bone, and *had* a bit of fatty padding on top of that pre-op. Post op, there's no fat there...bone is still prominent, but it's much less noticeable w/out the extra padding. So it's clear he lipo'd there. Also, I had very little Ken Doll swelling. I had drains in the pubic area, so it was a bit puffy right around that spot until they came out, but otherwise, I've had no particular visits from Ken.

I think it's worth ag your PS about lipo of that area. I have been really happy with my results, in that regard, FWIW.

I don't think so...although there may be techniques that work better than others. My PS's staff has remarked on the ends of my incision...that they look good, and said most women have trouble with the ends of their incision (dog ears). I have the tiniest bit of prominence on the left side, and the right side is flat as a flitter (the ends, I mean). I doubt I'd have any revision or do anything about the left, since it is so miniscule...if it doesn't change for the worse, I am fine with it.

I am 9 months out, today! Woo hoo! Good luck with yours...and ask anything you want here. No questions are stupid. Good on you for speaking out! I guarantee several others have been wondering the same thing. Every so often, when the topic slides a few pages back, someone invariably says...

What is a ken doll?
What are dog ears?
and
What is MR? (muscle repair, for anyone reading who wants to know )

I see what you mean -- and you don't look overweight at all! Is this why most people get on their hips/flanks at the same time as a ? I've had lipo on my hips and thighs years ago, didn't really want to do it again, but don't want to have to go back for a second procedure either. I know you aren't supposed to gain weight where you've had lipo, but I have to say that my hips/thighs remain fleshy, so this is a real concern for me.
