MOTRIN?????

Question:
When is it safe to take ibuprofen? I am taking only Tylenol now because the Loratabs make me feel sick and tired but I know I'd have better pain relief with Advil or Motrin. My PS said I could but I was nervous to do that because I thought I read here prior to my surgery that you could not due to increse risk of bleeding. So when did your PS tell you Motrin was ok??
Answer:

I do not recall mine saying I could not take ibuprofin, however I would think the bleeding risk would be during surgery due to ibuprofin thinning your blood.
Answer:

on day 3 I took motrin during the day, pain meds in the pm

Answer:

You are not supposed to take it because of blood thinning and the potential for bleeding. I did not ask until about 4 weeks after my sx, but could take it then (but I haven't). If your ps says it is o.k., I would go with it. I think you are fine with it soon after sx.
Answer:

The limitations on the motrin are 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after sx.
Answer:

My PS prefers Motrin because it decreases inflammation. I always get off of Vicoden as soon as I can tolerate it and switch to Motrin. I've never heard of issues with blood thinning. If your PS says it's fine and you want to switch, I would do it.

I read recently that all the pain relievers (Motrin, Tylenol, Advil) cause constipation. So, continue to beware of that unpleasantness!

I was wondering the same thing and I do remember my ps saying two weeks before and two weeks after to stay away from it. I go on Wed. to see my ps and I am going to ask because I am still on Percocet and it puts me to sleep, so I need something during the day!! I am almost 3 weeks postop and I still feel horrible!! I have to go to work in 2 weeks and I can't fit into a darn thing yet!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!

I see that you had a lot of too. I'm 11 days out and the lipo on my back is still killing me. When did it start to get better??
Answer:

PS prescribed 600mg Motrin to me a week after surgery so it depends on the PS. I've been fine with it.
Answer:

I still havent taken it and I am one month post op today. They told me extra strength tylenol and I have taken that if I need it. I was so ed to do something they told me not to do that I may never take it again. haha!
Answer:

After my full TT with MR taht is all I was told to take, my surgeon gave me Tylenol with coedine but insisted on me taking Motrim 500 mg am and pm, I'm swelling lots still and I have the drainage.
Good luck!

Michop,

I had on my back and had tons of bruising and I still hurt!! The bruising has gone away for the most part, but I am still numb and it hurts to put loition on my back. I am almost 3 week postop!! Good luck! Let me know when you start to feel better. I have a lot of itching, but they say itching is good because it means you are healing, but it sucks when you itch and can't scratch the darn place because you are numb and the itch is deeper then the surface!!

Answer:

Motrin has worked best for me, trust me! I have had alot going on but I try for liver reasons, to alternate. But I do reach for the Motrin first. I was never told that I could not use one or the other. Juyst make sure that w/the Motrin you eat something in case it messes up with your stomach!
