Question:
I was told by my PS to purchase a pair of anti-embolism (not sure about that spelling) s and put them on the morning of my surgery. I am 1 week PO and my PS said he would tell me when I could quit wearing them. I am still getting up and moving around at least one time on the hour to help to prevent blood clots.
I was just curious if anyone else wore them, if so for how long? In what timeframe can you assume that you are, safe or not at risk as far as blooots are concerned?

Answer:
My PS did not instruct me to buy the anti-embolisn s but I did take it upon myself to purchase a pair just in case they do not send me home with any. I plan on wearing for one week post-op and I plan on getting up and moving around every hour but wearing the hose as added protection.

Answer:
I was told to get some but the day I had surgery PS told me wear something lose so I figured that meant no s and didn't bring any.
He has seen me 2x's since my surgery on the 2/6 and never mentioned the stocking things again. I personally have never worn anything other than my tummy . But I walk alot and do pretty much everything I did before surgery. No problems yet. How do I know if I get blood clots???
Answer:
Sent home in them the day of surgery and wore 48 hours. I was up the next day though walking around the house.
Answer:
My PS put alot of emphasis on paying attention to the way your legs feel. He said any severe leg cramping thats prolonged or any unusual chest pains shoulder pains to go to the hospital or call , or 911.
Answer:
I had a 3-day hospital stay (due to having a hysterectomy at the time of my FTT). I was put into the automatic compression boots (the ones that continually inflate and deflate) which I wore until the night before I went home from the hospital.
I wasn't sent home with the s ... however, I made a point to get up and move around often.

Answer:
Do you have to wear them 24/7 or just during the day?
Answer:
24/7
Answer:
They put them on me before surgery and I wore them for like 2 weeks. I just took everything to the extreme as far as after care one I am on BC pills and two my dad had heart problems so I just wanted to make sure I didn't get clots, but I did take them off to wash my legs and feet starting on day 2 and put them right back on. Then about day 4 or 5 I washed and dried them, put them back on and wore them like i said for two weeks.
And it does feel strange to take them off and leave them off.
Good luck!
