numbness post-op

Question:
I had septoplasty/turbine reduction and some other sinus related surgery done last friday (March 3). My dr. prefers for people to stay overnight, so I stayed overnight and had the sponges out on Sunday. Since then the right side of my face has gotten number and number... today I went to see my ENT to get the splints out (I passed out b/c of the anxiety and pain while I was in the chair) and he did some cleaning. Said for the most part they looked good. I asked about half my face feeling numb and he said that he had never had that happened to anyone before (I then asked if it took anyone else 14 tries for an iv before they got a usable one--which was me!) and he said no. He said that the nerves in the face shouldn't have been affected, but he could see that half of my face was numb.. from my right nostril down to my chin, then over to mid-cheek. Has anyone else had this happen? He said it may take a week or even a few months to go away. And afterwards (now) I have more swelling than before, is this normal?
