Question:
I turned 18 last month, I live in Germany, my parents work for the miltary. Last night at around 3 am I was taking a shower and I noticed the top of my foot had gone numb. Its been 24 hours and theres no change. I have problems sleeping and take Tylenol PM every night. I smoke and rarely ever drink. I just really want to know whats going on and dread any long term affects.
Answer:
It sounds like a circulation problem. Since it was a one off its most likely nothing serious.
I suffer from numb hands, lower legs and feet and this cold weather certainly doesn't help. The best thing to do is eep rubbing your foot till you can feel yourself touching it, or put a hot water bottle on your foot to warm it up. Not too hot though...just luke warm because your foot is numb you can feel how hot something is and can burn yourself because of this.
Also put on 3 pairs of socks and keep away from cold areas and try to sit as close to the fire as possible. Once your foot heats up you will regain feeling and it should be ok.
However if your foot goes black or a very dark colour then go to the hospital. If it isnt better in a few hours, ring your doctor for advice.
Answer:
Hello young man,
It sounds like you need to see a doctor. Don't be afraid, it may just be a minor problem and I can't give you too much info because I will get bleeped from this. There are a few things it could be aside from circulation, it may be along the lines of neuropathy. A doctor can tell you and also check out natural things to do for this and please be careful of the drugs they may prescribe. Good luck to you. Sue
