Floaters in my Eye

Question:
I have noticed over the last couple of months that I have a floater in my right eye. When - I stare at a blank background it looks like a thread is floating across my eye and when I am looking at people for example - it is just like a small blur coming into vision. There is no pain associated with it, but I never had eye problems in my life and I don't wear glasses - so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what it was.
I am going to an eye doctor on Tuesday, but I wanted to see if I can do a little research before I go.
Thanks,
Pete
Answer:

Floaters are actually tiny clumps of gel or cells inside the vitreous, the clear jelly-like fluid that fills the inside of your eye. This can happen as we age or after we bump our head ever so lightly (or harder). Floaters can be a result of vitrous separation. I had this happen to me for unknown reason one time and later due to vertigo slamming me down on the bed against husbands legs.
Best to see an othamologist and be sure the vitrous has not separated. Vitrous separation can lead to retina tear.

I have floaters in my eyes also. I have also heard it can because a person is near sighted. I remember having a floater when I was 9 years old. I didn't know what it was until I was older. I've also noticed as I age I seem to get more.
Answer:

Like someone said before me, floaters are just the gel-part of your eye partially dissolving and "floating around" it happens to me all the time and has for as long as I can remember. We learned about it in school and from what I remember it is extremely common and I believe it's harmless but if you're concerned about it, you should definintely mention it to your opthamologist
