My father has also lost most of his sense of taste and smell. He's 84 yrs. old and he's lost a lot of weight because he isn't interested in food anymore. He was thin to begin with. He's going back to the doctor later this month and they are going to test his thyroid. I know that weight loss and disinterest in food are common with our senior citizens, but to lose the senses of taste and smell is a tragedy. Keep us posted on your mom.
