Question:
My mom is experiencing a sweet taste sensation with everything she eats and drinks. She says everything tastes sweet to her. She is concerned that this is symptomatic of a more serious medical condition. Does anyone know if this sweet sensation is reflective a specific medical problem, disease, or condition?
Thank you.

Answer:
Keith, I'm curious to know how old your mom is? My dad is experiencing a lot of taste problems also and he's 83 yrs. old. He's in good health, but since his taste is messed up he's not eating right and he's lost a lot of weight. Has your mom lost weight? I've been wondering if it's a thyroid problem with my dad--he's supposed to be seen by a doctor in a couple weeks. Has your mom asked her doctor about this problem yet? I'll be watching this thread too and maybe someone out there has some info.
Thanks!

Answer:
Soibhan,
My mom is 75. She recently had a cat scan because she was concerned with pancreatic cancer. The scan turned up ok. She is having other health problem so not being able to eat is weakening her immune system. I will keep in mind the possibility of a thyroid problem.
Thank you.
