Question:
About a month ago a small lump started to appear behind my left ear. It grew and I started to worry. As I researched, I thought it might just be my lymph node reacting to something. The lump is about 3/4 inch and now a second one is appearing. Any ideas from anyone? It doesn't hurt, it doesn't move, it stays the same or grows larger. I do not have insurance - so dropping in at a doctor's office isn't practical right now. BTW, I also have psoriasis pretty badly on my head, I don't know if this is a related fact. I have experienced some shooting pain in my head and very short stints of dizziness. Please help!
Answer:
Hello
Just wondering if it (they) are sebaceous cysts. It's the right spot for them.
Definition: " Sebaceous cysts most often arise from swollen hair follicles. Skin trauma can also induce a cyst to form. A sac of cells is created into which a protein called keratin is secreted.
These cysts are usually found on the face, neck, and trunk. They are usually slow- growing, painless, freely movable lumps beneath the skin. Occasionally, however, a cyst will become inflamed and tender."
They can get quite large. A relative of mine had lots (8-10) at one stage.
I doubt if you have much choice but to get them identified by a Dr (as any lump should be anyway) but that need not mean ongoing visits. Diagnosis and advice may just be sufficient. Look up sebaceous cysts in a search engine and you may get a better idea.
Best wishes
