Question:
Thanks for the replies. You've really helped. I'm thinking about getting one on my ankle. Nothing too big-bit freaked out by the pain factor ;-)
Answer:
Yup, boney places hurt more, fleshy places aren't as bad. I saw a lady getting one on her shoulder blade and (not to scare you, but) she hardly got through it! It appeared it hurt her so badly that she got sick. But, it will also depend on your pain tolerance.
A friend of mine got one on her lower back, and, while it hurt, she said it wasn't too bad. Didn't appear to bother her too much while it was being done.
I've thought about getting one for a long time. Haven't yet decided to do it.
Also, think about whether or not you want it to be visible all the time, or whether you want it visible only when YOU want it seen.
Good luck!

Mandi,
What kind of tat are you going to be getting? Ive got three myself, one close to my ankle, one above my knee and one on my upper arm. I will be getting a dragon on my shoulder blade as soon as I save the money and also getting one on my lower back. Only one of mine hurt really bad, and that was the one above my knee, but like the others say, it all depends on where you get it,and how much pain you can tolerate, good luck though

Jaebird,
I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking about a scorpion- not too big though.
So the one on your ankle was OK then? I'm trying to be rebelious here but it doesn't work if you're afraid of the pain huh??
Answer:
I have 8 tats currently. The most painful one was on my right hip. I have one on my right calf that was an easy one. I have two on my left breast and those were not bad pain wise either. I have an armband on my left arm. It got painful the more it went inward twoard my body. But not unbearable. Then I have one on each shoulder blade. Those werent bad either. I also have one on top of my left foot and it flows down to the top of my big toe. That is a bony area and surprisingly it didnt hurt as bad as I thought it would. Like I said for me the most painful one was the one on my hip.
It varies from person to person to be honest. You also might surprise yourself and deal with it better than you think.
Also a little note. Some shops do reuse needles but sterilize them and then repackage them. So just because they look like they are opening a new package doesnt mean the needles are new. Not saying they arent safe just saying that is how some tattoo shops do it.
A good think to do besides asking and seeing that reaction is to look for a Health Certificate. Many states require that Tattoo shops go through health checks every so often. The certificate should be hanging where people can see it. a
