Question:
I am 4 weeks post-op and my is hard. The 's assistant to my PS saw me during my last visit. He told me it was tissue and for me to massage it.... I am scared because a friend of mine that is a nurse said sometimes scar tissue stays hard.... My nose feels hard like a dead person's nose ... shortly after surgery 2 1/2 weeks the swelling started being less noticeable, it was softening.. then I started feeling little bumps, then hardening. Is massaging sufficient? Is there anything else I can do. Also my nostrils are two different sizes ( I am told that time heals that) and the portion that separates the nostrils looks like it is slanted over...... (I am told this will straighten out over time as well). But I am concerned about the hardness... how long will it take to soften?
Answer:
I know this question was addressed to Naderi but at 4 weeks post op, your should be somewhat moldable.
As for the tissue, massaging can help to soften it. I would speak with your PS directly since he is the one who did the surgery and ask him for specific massage techniques. Scar tissue is normal after any surgery and massaging just simply helps to soften it.
Personally, I wouldnt listen to any other nurse that isnt directly affiliated to your ps. No offense to nurses but she's not the MD and she didnt do the surgery on you. So, again, consult with your ps's office and follow their specific instructions.
Edited to say: I just got your email so I guess I killed two birds with one stone. Initiially, my tip was very numb and I could feel alot of swelling then it started to soften up. Now at almost 10 weeks post op, it's a little harder. I'm assuming this is scar tissue and I have a post op appt with my ps Feb 6th. I'm going to confirm that it is scar tissue with him. He does tell his patients that it can take many months for the scar tissue to dissipate. I'll be ag him any massage techniques that may help.
Just try and relax because at 4 weeks post op you're way too early to push the panic button.

Thanks for replying... I'd still like Dr. Naderi's response. My is moldable... I can squeze the nostrils in if I pinch my nose... the tip is extremely hard (I cant push it down like you should be able to do with a nose) and it is very bumpy over the nostrils.. like it is hardened on the inside (under the ).... My wasn't specific about the type of massaging to do (and he is out of his office for the next two weeks)... so I can't reach him..... I have emailed him and have spoken with the PA at his office... I am just trying to get as much advice and feedback that I can regarding how common it is for the hardening and bumpiness... My nose does look GREAT from the outside... I am pleased with the results from an aesthetic perpective. However the entire surgery would be for naught .. if I am stuck with a hard nose
