Question:
It's day 16 for me, and I just started massage yesterday...too tender up until now. I bought a rolling pin as you all advised, but it didn't feel like it was doing much...soooo, had my DH massage with his hands just now and he said he felt all kinds of stuff "loosening" up in there. I almost puked hearing that. There is nooo way I can do that to myself and feel that junk moving around. He said he'll help me, but what can I do on my own if he's not around? I honestly swear this is the worst part of this whole thing for me! Isn't that nuts? I know the "inner" stuff is supposed to be loosened in order to get rid of it, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Professional massage is out of the question...too expensive. Any suggestions from you vets? Thanks!!!
Answer:
Massage on the areas sort of grosses me out as well. I'm not sure why but I have been doing a lot of stretching instead. I have had very little hardness.. this could be a result of stretching.
Can I ask what DH means.. I see this all the time and haven't a clue as to what that stands for???
Answer:
DH = Darling Husband (or use any "D" word that you are feeling toward him at the moment )
Answer:
I can't seem to do much massage on my own either, but haven't asked my BF for help. I have another post-op tomorrow, gonna ask about it again. They gave me the business card of a massage therapist or whatever last time but I don't want to spend the $$ yet, and I was also still sore. Still am a little, on my sides and towards the back. But the spot I really want massage (or something!) to help with is my lower ab area.
So I'll see what the doc says tomorrow.....
Still happy with the overall results!
Answer:
I take a hot/warm bath with baby oil in it and that is the only place I can do it...lightly
Yes it feels weird, hard, soft, numb and the swelling moves...
I could not let anyone else touch me right now as I am sore...over 5weeks and my PS said no massage till after 6weeks for me...when I see him next week...they told me they would show me how to do it myself..
Answer:
I am so totally not a bath person. LOL. But I can see how that would work better. I do try to do it for a few minutes in the shower while soaped up and slippery. Let me know what your doc says! And I'll do the same.
Answer:
I feel the same way about my hard areas. They make me feel sick, like there is all stuff in there crumbling up and just wounded tissue. It feels disgusting and I will NOT touch it. Gahhhhhhh just reading this makes me feel sick!
Answer:
Very interesting topic here, I too am going to be one that will have a hard time with massaging... When I was in the shower and ran my hands over my upper/mid abs I have two spots that feel ropey and it turned my stomach just to have to wash that area, my DH said he can do it for me so I shall let him until I can get use to it....
So yes mark me up as one that will "completely get grossed out with self massage"...
This recovery has been the best recovery I have ever had....
Hugs to all,
Lezza
Answer:
I called my PS right away and he said its just the fluid and tissue moving....so I forced myself. After a couple of the massages it felt better in there to move around!
Answer:
the first time i was out of my after surgery (day 5) i was grossed out just looking at my body, let alone touching myself- i could barely wash my self in the shower. i felt so fragile and tender.
but it gets easier. i lay down and watch TV while i'm massaging so i'm not so heebed.
