I miss my grandma.

Question:
My grandma died of cancer on new years day this year and I feel awful all the time. My mother (her daughter) is a manic depressive and doesn't seem well at the minute, understandably.

I don't know how to deal with her or my family or myself. I feel like I'm constantly apologising to my friends for being so up and down all the time but I can't help it.

If anyone has any advice on how to cope please let me know.
Answer:

I am so sorry that you recently lost your Grandma. My Mom just passed away 6 days ago so I'm just in the beginning stages of learning to live without her.

My sister is bipolar so I can also relate to dealing with someone whose mental health is not the best.

As for your Mom, she's going to have to go through all of this one day at a time just like you are. Personally, I would love to "hurry up" the grieving process but how long a person grieves depends on each individual.

If I were you, I would stop apologizing to friends or family and give yourself a break. Those that love and care about you will understand that you need time to get through this and if they can't handle it then maybe they aren't the kind of people you need in your life.

I keep hearing from others that "time" is the best healer. So, take all of the time you need to grieve and make sure you take care of yourself.

Blessings,
Squelch

Hi, i understand exactly what you are going through, because i experienced the exact same thing. 3 years ago, my Grandfather passed away from Alzheimer's disease, and shortly afterwards my mom slipped into a severe depression.

This is a very hard thing to overcome, trust me... it WILL happen. My mom is now okay, and it took her about a year to become okay, that year was very hard, but the situation as a whole, made me a stronger person. I know right now, that it feels horrible, and you go up and down. but slowly, and surely, you will be okay. I still remember my grandfather, and think of him everyday, but now, instead of getting upset, i smile, because as cliche as it is, id rather have the pain of losing him, than to have never met him before.

Your mom will be okay. She just needs to cope with the loss, i promise it will come. And it will come for you too. It all takes time. I hope this helps.

i am very sorry to hear about your grandmom.

i understand what you're feeling, my grandmom passed away in september and my mom, her daughter, was feeling very upset most of the time.. probably a depression. i was constantly moody towards my friends and always having to explain myself on why i was so edgy.

It's normal that you're feeling mixed emotions and not being able to tolerate much. Just give it time and give your mom time also, you're all in the process of mourning and things will brighten up. Live each day one by one and try to remember that she's in a better place and not feeling any pain, it helped me to think that she was with her parents and other family that went before her, she'll be waiting for you when you get up there too.
