Is Metamucil the sames as pysillium husk?

Question:
i have pysillium but was thinking of getting some metamucil capsules as i dont like drinking it. Are they the same or wat?
Answer:

Yes, metamucil is powdered psyllium. if you have the psyllium husk, try it in orange juice, it does improve the texture and taste. i can't gag it down in water or milk <retch> PS metamucil is approx 3-4 times the price of psyllium husk
Answer:

They are the same you just gotta take alot of them in one day, plus you're paying more for less compared to buying the powder. I believe the powder is more beneficial and effective, you also get more for the price you pay compared to the pills.

Well everyone that has posted on this thread is from a different country! baldy lives in the UK. And, he has said in the past that Metamucil is not sold there. I don't know if Medamucil is marketed in Canada or Australia?

I have been taking the Orange flavored sugar free type psyllium powder for many years and the Metamucil brand and the Equate brand from Wal Mart mixes well with water and I have not found it difficult to stir briskly and drink promptly -- it mixes well.

But, I am with baldy I don't like to mix or drink pure psyllum seed husk mixed with water-- it floats and does not mix well in water/fluids. Some manufacturers suggest that you put it in a shaker to get it to mix well.

The largest capsules that I have found is 870 mgm and is sold by the Vitamin Shoppe in the US. My wife takes 3 or 4 twice daily and they work well for her.
The powder form of psyllium starts absorbing fluid too quickly for her and it hurts her hiatal hernia. So, it's not a matter of cost but what works for you.

Several other soluble fibres supplements that are used in the US should act the same as psyllium.
Citrucel that contains methylcellulose, Benefiber that contains guar gum and FiberChoice-- contains Inulin which is chicory root but this product contains sorbitol that may cause some people problems.

I personally don't like capsules but I probably would take them rather than mix psyllium with water.

Baldy --I wish you well.

Answer:

Harry,
I am seeing a new CRS who wants me to take one tablespoon of fiber a day. I had originally been taking the Equate form of Metamucil after my hem. surgery. I found that it was making me having bm's 4 times a day which is just too much for me. So I stopped and switched to Benefiber which I believe has caused me to have harder bm's. Do you think that is possible? So I went back to the Equate form of Metamucil last week and I am again having 3-4 bm's a day. I would like to take fiber but I need one that doesn't cause me to go so many times a day. What about Citracel? Is it any different than the above two I mentioned? I would really like your advice on this.
