Question:
Hi There, I joined curves approx. one month ago, within first week I went hard at an exercise routine 5 days per week with no rest. I also rolled my left ankle during exercise and continued to exercise 3 + weeks on the injury. Finally I went to the doctor which was probably a good idea!
Doc sent me for xrays, they came back possible stress fracture left tibia (at ankle). Doc scheduled me in for a bone scan which I had one week later. During the scan I mentioned to the technician that both legs hurt and I am not 100% certain which one is injured. She scanned both, and said from what she can see on the bone scan I have a possible fracture to left tibia at ankle and if I was older she said I would say arthritis to right knee but she said the Radiologist really is the one to read them and send the report back to my doctor. She told me she would take the findings to the Radiologist to view, she then came back into the bone scan room and said the Radiologist wanted me sent down to xray to have both the right knee and the left ankle xrayed.
I then asked the xray technician if the xrays looked OK because she said I could leave, there was little time so I doubt the Radiologist looked at the xrays. She said honey I don't read them I just take the pics. So now I am PO'ed as I hate waiting to find out what is wrong with me, it has been the weekend plus today, I had it done last Friday, so I might find out soon.
I am not in major pain although it is worsening with time plus I decided not to exercise until I find out what is wrong and that is making me a bit frustrated as I want to get moving on that. I wonder why they would take xrays as I can't figure it out, I thought bone scans were better than an xray. Should I be worried as I am stuck now waiting for someone to call and my doc goes on vacation July 24th so I made 2 calls to her office as I hate to be delayed and now I am just posting here to see if anyone has similar experience or can talk to me about what they think might be wrong. Thanks Tammie PS: I barely limp and the swelling subsides with rest and comes back with exercise, sometimes if I sit too long I get really sharp pains at fronts of tibia mid section and knees and anles the entire legs from knees down with throb other times I am fine, I do have a good pain tollorance though, gave birth to a 10lb baby without an epidoral kind of thing so I can take pain (this is really nothing) had TMJ, whiplash, prolotherapy for other problems which is multiple injections of needles so I can handle pain well!!!
Answer:
well not sure if anyone is here...
Anyhow heard from docs office have an appoint tomorrow, it seems the bone scan shows some kind of stress fracture or fracture but the pain is not consistant with the findings or something ... will have to wait and see.
Doctor wants to do a more thorough exam of both legs or somethign... hate waiting.
Answer:
HI Tam: Im from Canada as well. I know what you are going thru. I had an ankle fusion in June and in August heard this loud crack (had my cast on still) . Went to 2 different hospitals and couldnt find anything wrong. Then went to my next appt with surgeon in Sept. and he informs me that I possibly have a stress fracture of tibia but they dont show up for 4-6 weeks on xray because the new bone has to start developing before you can see it. He didnt order scan or MRI. Just went to him on November 17 and xrays did confirm a stress fracture and I have a lump on my lower leg where fracture is. He told me that I have to stay in boot cast until Feb. and if Im still having pain in my leg he will remove a screw at top of rod that he put in my ankle which happens to be at my lower tibia. He said since Ive already had a stress fracture I would be prone to them if the screw stays in however the screw must stay in until my ankle is totally fused. Im in constant pain but not excrutiating just dull throb and it gets worse as day goes on. I hear you I hate waiting for results. My patience is wearing thin.
Good luck
Gwen
