I've been through the cystoscopy and dilation once already. Just prior, my urine stream was very very weak, and I was in tons of pain. Right after, the urine stream was great, but it has slowly closed down again. I still have pain but not like before, so I'm stalling. If I do it again, my doctor will go in and cut the tissue. BTW, as you noted, it sure is unpleasant! When I was getting prepped for the procedure, I looked at the scope and half jokingly asked the nurse how they were going to slide that thing in me, because I'm not exactly built like a porn star! She got a good laugh out of that, but it sure didn't change anything.

Go see your doctor and tell him (or her) your concerns. Again, even though your dad has prostate cancer, that's probably not the cause of your problems. BUT, because it's in your family and struck your dad in his 50's, you definitely need to keep an eye on your PSA as you get older. In general, if it's in your family, you need to start monitoring your PSA no later than 40 years old, and I would say start a few years earlier than that. According to a nurse practitioner at my hospital, one of the younger guys they’ve treated was 37.

How is your dad doing? I wish your dad, you, and your family the best.
Answer:

Sounds like Chronic Prostatitis. There are a few different names for it, but it causes the symptoms you are talking about. Many men who develop Chronic Prostatitis also have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and are stressed individuals. I've been battling it since I was in my twenties and I'm 33 now. It usually flares up for several days and then dies down. You have to look for things that trigger the problem. For me it is sitting for extended periods, vigorous exercise and sex. Good luck
Answer:

See a uroligist, he can put this issue to rest for you. If you have any health fairs going on in your area you can usually get a PSA done for about $35. This should help ease your mind.

distraught_AA: My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer about a year ago. He had brachytherapy and radiotherapy and has been told that the cancer is now gone. He say's he feels o.k apart from tired and a bit of lower back pain. Thanks again for your advice and I am wishing you a healthy future.

Thanks for the wonderful responses. I just went to my doctor this morning and he said that it sounds like I have Prostatis. He first performed a digital rectal exam and mentioned that my Prostate felt a little large for my age. He then had me do blood work to check my kidney function and to test my P.S.A. level. Then finally he had me do a urinalysis, which he's sending to the lab. From here, he next wants me to get a CT scan of my entire urinary tract to check for blockages. After all of this is complete, he suggested that I see a Urologist regardless of the results. I felt pretty comfortable with his analysis of me. Oh, and I also asked him about the liklihood of me having prostate cancer at 27 and he said there would be a very, very slim chance. He said it sounds more like an infection. So, here I am! I'll just wait patiently as I can for all of these results to pile in. Does anyone else think I should be more concerned about Prostate Cancer??? Thanks again for all of the responses.
