Question:
Just a follow up to my original post of PSA 6.3.. I have a couple of questions and they are as follows:
1. My tests are scheduled for this Thursday... Will I be able to go back to work and be able to drive?
2. Are you able to hear conversations by the Administering Doctor's who are giving you the tests ?
I appreciate everyones assistance, and I will post after I get my results.. Thanks...ed
Answer:
I did not have any anesthetic for my ultrasound/biopsy, so I was fully conscious during the procedure. I even drove myself to and from the doctor's office. However, I did not go back to work that day. My doctor told me to take it easy for a few days. I had my test on a Friday, so I did not go back to work until Monday. I was a little sore, but my only other symptom was blood in the semen, which gradually diminished for about 8 weeks. Then, that cleared up.
I had to take deep breaths at certain points in the procedure to deal with the sensation of pressure, but it was manageable. My doctor coached me through the whole thing, with me laying on my side. It maybe took about 15 minutes, total. Afterwards, he asked me to urinate in a cup to look for signs of blood. He was able to tell me about the ultrasound results immediately, and then I received the biopsy results about five days later. I wish you the best of luck with your test results.
Answer:
ed-same way here-no anesthesia. I was able to watch the ultrasound screen while the samples were taken. Procedure was short & not painful. No blood in urine or stools afterward, but semen was bloody. Worst part was waiting for the phone call about the pathology. Please let us know how you do.
Positive4U
P.S. I drove to & from the procedure by myself & went to work the next day.
Answer:
I definitely agree that waiting for the results was the worst part of the biopsy, but my experience was not quite the same as Positive4U or All_Sevens. For the ultrasound, I found that it was no big deal at all, and my uro told me what he was seeing as he did it. For the biopsy, I had a local anesthetic, and the first few samples were not bad. There is a pretty loud pop when each sample is taken, and that can be a little startling. But beyond that, about halfway through the procedure, I had some pretty significant pain. It was such that I was very relieved when it was over and had to hang on pretty hard to get through it. Afterward, I would describe myself as "shaken." I was very glad that my wife was there with me and could drive me home. As it happens, my procedure was done in my uro's alternate office, which is about 40 miles from our home, so it was a pretty long drive. I laid down most of the rest of the day, but felt well enough to go to work the next day and resumed all normal activities, with minimal soreness. I passed some clots in my urine and had bloody semen for a couple or three weeks. That was quite startling at first, but wasn't really a problem other than potential staining of garments or bedding. Obviously, the experience is not the same for everyone, and perhaps mine is unusual.
Answer:
Mine experience was similar to Lookin's. Local anesthetic, started to hurt at about number 7 or 8 of 12 cores. Wife drove me home. Decreasing amounts blood in semen for a couple months. Stools and urine were fine.
