can enlarged spleen cause such shortness of breath? - Page 2

Question:
For what it is worth, a CT Scan revealed last year that I have a "mildly enlarged spleen" as well.

Everytime I bring this up with the doctors, they just give an expression as if it was no big deal. While on the internet - all you read is "scary diseases" as causes of enlarged spleen.

I totally understand the frustration of Sue in this regard.

I have transient Shortness of Breath as well...but my doctors have always attributed it to anxiety.

Have other ongoing symptoms too.
Answer:

I have had to go into hospital for pain relief, and I was told by many consultants many times that the enlarged abdomen is down to the spleen, but no-one found out why, the last scan though taken at the beginning of the yr was only boarder line though, so it went down a bit.

I asked so many consultants is the enlarged spleen due to the fact that I have been very poorly in the last year, same amount of time I have had the swelling. They said no!! However, now that I have got worse my consultant feels that the enlarge nodes and the swelling could be connected as it hurts when my neck hurts.

Do you find it uncomfortable to sleep on your left side as well?. My abdomen is really swollen, the area around the spleen is really hard. Sometimes the pain feels like a really bad stitch, and I feel like I'm pregnant as if there was a baby pressing down under my boobs as I get pressure there, but I had a hysterectomy this year!! I get breathless just having a conversation, climbing the stairs and even lying down!!

Is this anything like what you have experienced, please let me know?

Best wishes Susie
Answer:

Hi, I don't want to worry you but one of my many symptoms was that my spleen was swollen (i was originally told that there were cysts on it but that turned out to be wrong) the swollen spleen is what made them give me another CT scan and I have just recently been diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease. I had hundreds of doctors appointments and many many hospital trips and i was treated like i was over-exaggerating or making it up so keep pushing them until they do something. Some of my sypmtoms earlier on did include hurting when i took deep breaths and I've had continuous, agonising abdominal pain for the last six months but my tummy isn't bloated. I was throwing up blood for a while and i had an endoscopy that showed that my stomache had pushed up into my diaphragm but they didn't seem to know what caused it and they don't seem too worried about it.

Wish you the best of luck. xx

Thanks Pinkmada

I don't think anyone has a clue really, I am just complicated!! I saw a pain specialist last week and he diagnosed something totally different to anyone else, I only went for the oral morph.

I am being positive and I know that they won't find anything in my biopsies when the do them this Wednesday, I feel as though I will be wasting every ones time and efforts!!

I hope that you start to feel better soon, and thank you for your advice it's a help, especially when you feel you keep going around in circles because no-one can make their minds up as to what is the cause!

I'm sorry I must seem really selfless, I'm not just tired.

All the best Susie
