Question:
I had read in another post regarding your diagnosis. I had my 7 yr old son to the drs. today for a very large lymph node. I went in thinking swollen glands, no biggy, but the dr. is very concerned. We are trying 7 days of antibiotics and if that doesn't address it as an infection, she said we will be agressive....When you said that your cancer was found in front of your ear, my red flag went up. My son's runs from the front of the ear down along the jaw line. Is there anything that you can share with me...gosh, I don't even know what to ask. I am so, so afraid for my sweet little boy....

there are so many possibilities of what could be causing this.. just listen to the dr... Unless he doesnt follow up!!!! My tumor felt like a hard little knot about a finger tip away from the from of the ear. I had NO PAIN!!!! Please try and stay calm... and I know this is almost impossible when it involves your sweet little angel.. but you need to be strong for him!!!
If indeed there is a tumor.. they will probably want to do a biopsy.. either what the call a FNA ( fine needle aspiration) or an actual surgury. This will then go to a pathologist who will determine if the biopsy sample is benign(no cancer) or malignant(cancer). From there they will have many options on what they do next. Most likely they will do a CT scan to see if there are any other tumors in his body. If they do not find anything it is extremely like they could stage him at Stage 1..( very good prognosis) if it is lymphoma they will then determine if it is the slow growing kind ( then they just watch it to see if it grows) or the fast moving kind (then they determine the treatment) Mine is stage 1 ( a good thing) but fast growing(bad thing) The treatment i am going thru was 4 rounds of chemo (RCHOP) one of the strongest chemo's. Now I am going thru radiation.. every day for 5 weeks minimum... Then with lymphoma you just kinds have to wait and see if it comes back ( it does have a high reoccurance rate) but I have been told that the treatment plan i am doing is the closest thing they have to a cure.
Please know that the probability of it being cancer is very low.. young children are exposed to all kinds of germs and virus, etc. That most likely it is a virus that has cause the lymph glands to swell and that is what you are seeing and feeling!!!
Keep us informed on here!!! i will be praying for you!!!

Thank you so much. You are such a dear to lend an ear/advice when you yourself are going through so much.
This morning my husband called me on the way to work...he said he's been praying and praying about it and had stopped to get gas and continued to talk with God as he was doing so. As he put the nozzle back, he put his hand on top of the gas tank and there was a business card there. He picked it up and it was our pastor's! He said he just felt that it was God's way of telling us to give it to God and lean on him. Right now that's what we have to do.
Again, I cannot thank you enough for your calm, caring advice. I too will keep YOU in my prayers.
Blessings,
Beth
