Question:
I'm just venting: I'm an 18 year old gril, in my first year of college, and was recently diagnosed with my third bout of leukemia (ALL) (second relapse). Not to sound too whiny but I can't help but feel like it never stops. The hardest part has to be trying to keep as much as I can hidden... Anyone else ever relapse more than once here? Sorry to bother you all.... hope you're all doing well!
Answer:
I'm so sorry to hear your news......my nephew has relapsed (same ALL) - as of this third relapse his Doctors decided to do the bone marrow transplant. His sister was an exact match, and 62 days later he went home. He's doing very well, but as you already know, it's not easy. Depending on your protocol, there's so many things that can be done. He had missed a few treatments last winter due to being sick. So they felt some of the cells were missed, and then some were found during his spinal. With everything new that is used today, your Doctor's have many options. You have every right to whine.....I wish someone could explain why anyone has to go through this once, let alone a second and third time. Our prayers are with you, stay positive and talk to your doctors.
Answer:
I had AML. Was transplanted in May 2002 in my first remission and remain cancer free.
I have a friend who had ALL who went through the sameish thing sadly He was dx. in 1999 and relapsed in Winter 2002 in the bone marrow, blood, CNS within a month of finishing three years of chemotherapy. He was transplanted in Feb. 2003 and then relapsed again in Winter 2003. It was an isolated relapse of a tumor around his eye (something that's extremely rare in ALL apparently). That was treated with localized radiation, but he did further chemo several months afterwards, since his chance of a relapse was so high. He's doing alright now, touch wood

I have had stage CIN II PRE CERVICALCANCER 3 TIMES. Its scarey in 1996, I was 19 the 1st time, but they always were able to do a colposcopy and cut it out. my paps have been normal since 2001. I in no way personally understand your situation, mine was caught early,(no chemo or radiation). I watched my nana get sick and pass from liemyinsarcoma. I know you will beat this again. Im just sending ((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))).
Mom with epilepsy and 2 children one disabled.---good luck

Sorry to hear about your relapse! I can't relate exactly to what you're going through because when I relapsed I relapsed into a different kind but I have had cancer three times. When I was four I was diagnosed with NHL, I did 18 months of chemo and radiation, was in remission for nine months and relapsed into ALL, I was six. I did chemo for about three years and was placed in remission. Then in 2004, at the age of 21, I was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carsinoma which mainly people my grandparents age get. However, it was found soon enough that I only had to have surgery. So I can relate a little to what you're going through. You just have to hang in there and try to stay positive but I know it is extremely hard to do.
Good luck and I hope things start to go better for you!
