Another Question

Question:
I had posted on here before about having problems with rectal bleeding and them finding a fissure and a small lump at the back wall of my rectum. Well, after extensive and painful exams all in the same day it could not be determined where the dang lump really was. Also, a CT scan was done and nothing was found in the colon though I did find out I have kidney stones in both kidneys..of course that is another story...lol I was supposed to go back and follow up, but after being with the doctor that did the initial exam and how rough he was, I did not want to go back. That was in October. The bleeding did stop for about a month or so, but then has started coming back in December. Not only that there are times that there will not be bleeding but it does not matter what type of stool I pass, be it soft or even a bit hard I am in so much pain. The pain has not stopped since I went in for the initial exam. I am nervous since my mother in law was diagnosed with colon cancer and is in fact dying from it, but I also do not want to get myself too upset and nervous, especially if it is nothing.

I am 35 yr old female, though not in the best of health, never really had any problems with my body until the last year or so with insulin resistance, gallstones, severe sleep apnea, etc. I guess what I am asking is if I should try my hand at another doctor or just wait and see if this is not another fissure and if it will heal on its own. I just do not want to go through what I did with the last doctor. By the end of the exam I felt so violated, I could not stop crying. He had no bedside manner whatsoever. I was humiliated. I was reluctant to go see someone about this at all and this just made it worse.

Anyway, enough of my rambling, just wanted to know what everyone else thought.

Thank you for your time.

Answer:

Please get it check out and PLEASE get another doctor. I agree this first doctor was clueless and had no bed side manners. Getting a colonoscopy includes getting a sedative where you are completly out or very very relaxed. Since my diagnoses of rectal cancer, I had many digital exams, and NONE were like you discribed.

Lee,

Thank you for your advice. I actually have an appt on Wednesday. This doctor I have seen before and I love her so I am hoping she will assist me. They do want to see me again before doing a colonoscopy to make sure it is not another fissure which I completely understand. At least this doctor I trust. The only reason I did not see her before was because she was on maternity leave.

Answer:

Ok, update here.....I have gone to the doctor today..She was actually not able to do a complete rectal exam due to the pain I was going through. We spoke of different options and while she thinks it is a fissure, she wanted to know if I wanted to do a colonoscopy just to rule cancer or anything else out. I love how she talked to me about all the options and did not think it crazy just because I am 35 and not older. She also said during this time she wants to go ahead and exam my rectum a bit closer when I am under anethesia.

So my colonoscopy is on February 16th..Everyone wish me luck...

Answer:

tlvaliant,

I'm so glad to hear this doctor and visit was better. I'm also glad your getting a colonoscopy. While I agree it's probably a fissure, it's best if they can give you a colonoscopy to confirm. Good luck,

Lee
